The Intercontinental Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean: Roles of Actors and Governance Issues. Moroccan Universities meet local actors

In these days several meetings are taking place among students and professors of the Moroccan Universities – Cadi Ayyad of Marrakesh and Mohammed V of Rabat – and the representatives of the Intercontinental Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean, Provincial Directorate of Waters and Forests – Chefchaouen, Regional Directorate of Waters and Forests – Tetouan, the two NGOs in Chefchaouen ADL and ATED, the Cooperative Assayida Alhorra and further local actors.

At the center of the mission – that starts in Chefchaouen and continues by visiting the Talassemtane and Bouhachem parks and the coastal part of Jbel Moussa – there will be the exchanges with the local authorities and actors involved in the management of a Biosphere Reserve.

Edu-BioMed project will be presented thanks to the work it has conducted in the last three years and the mapping, besides the academic aspects, of the current policies and critical aspects present in the Biosphere Reserves in Morocco, Lebanon, France and Spain.

The students involved in the mission will present the case studies they have conducted using scholarships provided by the project, for field visits and works carried on in the Moroccan Biosphere Reserve of Arganeraie and the Intercontinental Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean.
